I am going to be heading to court at the end of April for a relocation hearing. I have 2 children ages 5 and 4 with the same guy in which I was never married to. He abused drugs and alcohol when together and has 2 DUI's and a failed drug test. He was not really there for me much and i felt as if i were a single mom even when we were together. He had puched numerous holes in the walls and threw our kitchen table..among other things! I left him over 2 years ago and he ha only seen the kids every other weekend and he is not involved with daycare, schooling, medical, or any other activites pertaining to the children. He doesnt even call during the week to see how the children are doing or anything. I have been busting my butt in college, working, and taking excellent care of the children ALONE. He does pay child support but its only because he ha to..and its taken ut of his checks..and he holds his checks up and sais "look what you have done to me!" anyway, I have been working really hard and i want the best future for my kids and I and i have been accepted to a nursing school in california and my employer can also transfer me there so I will continue to work while attending school. My new fiance also lives there and the childrens and i lives would improve dramatically. I am seeking permission to relocate with my children and he is fighting me even though he stated that "if it were any other state but cali that he probably wouldnt mind..and started to haras the mexican population there. I live in ohio and while it would be a long ways away..i have offered to allow the children to be with him the entire summers at my expense and also share the major holidays(thanksgiving, christmas, spring break). he cant even provide for himself let alone 2 kids! he still lives with his mommy and daddy even! I truely believe that my kids and I deserve this opportunity for an amazing furure! But My nerves are killing me because i will be devastated if we cant go! Does anyone have a similar case or know outcomes of such cases???..does it help that we were never married!! Help! I need a lift of spirits..and prayer  ..thanks |

Before I got custody of my daughter, I consulted a lawyer because I was worried her mother was going to move out of state with my daughter. We were also not married. The lawyer told me the only way I would be able to stop her from moving would be if she were leaving the state just to keep me from seeing my daughter . Since you will be leaving for school and you will have a job out there, you shouldn't have any hangups. I also live in Ohio so the laws that applied to me would apply to you unless they've changed in the past 2 years. I'll be praying that God will send you in the right direction for you and your children. |

Thankyou for your reply! I am just a nervous wreck! I read your posts and i am truely sorry for your loss..you and your little girl are in my prayers also! |
