So I should be thanking God right now, and I am. Everything truly does happen for a reason. While not thrilled about having to stay here in Reno and deal with "grandparents" crazy friends nad having been unemployed for a few months. things are pretty ugly in DC right now, at least at Gallaudet, the students are rpotesting (long story) have blockaded campus entrances, there have been bomb threats, a building vandalized. The emlemtary, middle and high shcool for the deaf are on the university campus so the kids have not been in school for like two or three weeks. So I am pretty thankful we ended up not being able to go. Things are appearing to calm down, but I do have a backup plan if it doesn't get better, I will go into UMD's architecture program and LEx can go to Maryland school for the deaf, it will mena a little bit longer of a train ride for me but only by about ten minutes or so. So have abackup plan. JOb here is going well, should be getting end of year bonus as well. (fingers and toes crossed) I won't have as much as I would like But will have enough to fly out there have our few boxes shipped, though we don't need them right away, pay first and deposit and have some in savings just in case I dont find a job right away. Hopfully now I can start losing some of this weight so my business suits and dressier clothes will fit nad I wont have to go shopping for new clothes wehn I have a real job. Thanks for the prayers |

Erica,I know you'll find a good place for you and Lexie, no matter where it is. I'm sure that are many good schools for the deaf, right? Since I'm unemployed-- and it appears maybe professionally screwed with the way they fired me to cover up illegal practices-- I may take a trip out to Reno. Tell me how you like Reno now. I am so weary with frustration, loneliness and now the prospect of no income (I haven't even heard yet about unemployment benefits). I feel I'm going insane a little bit here and find myself wanting to run home to Reno. I do have friends there who care! And, I wonder if the job market might be better than PA. On the other hand, take my daughter out of 10th grade and move her cross country to a whole new culture? She begs me not to move... but I feel I'm losing this battle. My biggest gripe (and I know this sounds ridiculous) is Reno's climate. I've lived in this lush, green, gorgeous climate where it really rains! for over 12 years. Still, I'm just so restless and miserable right now. Tell me about Reno. If we come, maybe I could meet you! |

Reno has really grown, I haven't been fair to it since I have been back I guess because I was bitter about not getting my way and moving when I wanted to. I am not concerned for once about the move, either DC or MD is fine, UMD is actually in DC or really close to being in DC so I would have to live halfway between there and her school but I don't think it will be bad, if that is the option. It is also three months before she would start school and about the same for me and that is a long time for them to settle the problems before we get there. Whatever the case is it will be a good thing There are a lot of new and large companies out here, IGT is probably about the largest employer I know of and they keep expanding, plus they have a miriad of positions whether it is accounting, engineering, project cooridiantion, general office you name it. They offer great benifits, including cash sharing twice a year, (on top of profit sharing, but twice a year you actualy get what amounts to one or two extra paychecks depending how long you have been there) Grandma has been there like 16 years, her daughter 12-14 and daughter in law 9. One of my good friends has been there 2 years, her brother 11 and husband 4 years. Cost of living is getting higher, but still lower than alot of places. It has really expanded SOuth of town, on your way to CArson City, tons of office buildings new homes etc. And heading north out in Sparks is Spanish springs it used to be pretty small when I lived here a few homes and like a gas station now it is huge, Costco, walmart, aparts homes, everything, we just opened a new starbucks out there. I would like to see more musuems and things but they have opened an outdoor skating area downtown a riverwalk with small businesses and things downtown, its kind of a fun place to go. They even put in a new movie theater downtown and a year round farmers market. Finally got a few real restaraunts that don't require going in to a casiono. If you make it out here before JAnuary we should definatly get together it would be fun! |
