Do you ever have issues being joyful sometimes? I have so many wonderful things going on in my life and yet I'm having trouble being joyful right now. I even know the main issue - my job. I'm probably going to get a raise this year and a bonus, but I hate my job. It brings me down so much. I need to stay because I may get a nice, needed bonus in a few months. Here come the but... BUT, I don't like being there any more. I've been there going on 6 years. For the past year the environment has been getting progressively worse. I've finished two large bottles of Advil over the last year because I get headaches every other day or so. When I'm off for a week, I feel like a different person. People even notice a difference. I plan on leaving after I receive my bonus. My problem is that I wont be able to find a job that pays as much somewhere else and the benefits are great. How can I be joyful till this time has passed? I don't know. It drains me daily until I feel like a shell. Then, I fel stupid for letting it get to me. Gotta love being emotional!Deb |

Deb, you will be alright. Joy will come when you look deep enough inside yourself to find it. I think you are looking in the right direction and just have to make some decisions and you will be there. You were in the column for prayer so your heart is leading you. Follow it. Listen for the guidence of the Holy Spirit and ask for that guidance. I was in a career type job until recently. I was there for 21 years and hated almost every one of them. It came to a head after my triplets were born. I was going to the other side of the world to work and would not see them 6 months out of the year. I missed their 5th birthday when I went to the Persian Gulf in 2003 and decided that was enough. I quit that job and came home to the hills to raise my kids on 1/3 of my previous salary. I am a much happier man now and I know my kids are better off with me here. There has been some stress in the financial area but I find that I have more true JOY now on a much smaller budget. There is a verse in the Bible that says "This too shall pass" I think of that verse when I get down. It is true. At my age I have been "down" a few times and sometimes it seemed like I would never get back up. It ALWAYS passed and I always got back up. Find your true joy (children, the Lord, gardening) and latch on to it with a ferocity that allows you to just jump back on it when something knocks you off. That is how I get by and yes, I have more than one source of joy. |

Thank you. I like that verse you suggested. I have a week off starting Monday. It should help out alot. I'll be working in my house. I've come to enjoy that a whole lot this month! We move in Saturday. I have to repair some studs in the walls that were ravaged by termites a long time ago. Then I get to reinsulate the walls and hang drywall. So much to do in only a week. I'm still having issues with joy but I have hope that it will get better! It takes a very wise man to let go of a good paying job to care for his family properly. Blessings, Deb |

Just pray. He will guide where you need to be, you only have to listen. It's hard becausewe want to know how we are doing everyhting, where everything will come from, everything. You might not find a job that pays as well, maybe that is His plan, maybe there is job that pays better or leads to a promotion in the near future. GOd will look after you. You just have to ask. Okay I've tried to post this response twice already. . .YOU WILL SEE WHAT I HAVE TO SAY!! Please don't let the enemy rob you of your joy!!! The joy of the Lord is your strength!! No joy, no peace/strength!! Find a tape/CD series that teaches on joy/peace. Joyce Meyer has tons of them that are good (www.joycemeyer.org). Study your word more now than you've ever studied before. The enemy knows if you lose your joy then it's more difficult for you to deal with "life"!! You have sooooooooo much going on right now: the baby being smacked in the face, changes in your environment at home. Allow yourself to feel a bit overwhelmed but don't let the devil still your JOY!!! Yes you may get another job with less stress but in corporate America stress is inevitable. . .therefore you have to have your own JOY!!! Hang in there, you are stronger than you think your are!!! I'll be praying with you!!! |

So, so, SOOOO true!! The enemy wants to rob of us our joy. You are so right on. He is deceptive and it's so easy to fall into his trap of self-doubt. We just need to keep turning to God for wisdom and strength and we'll get it. |
