At my place of work they have fired two people in my position. I am next in line. My boss told me that she doesnt care about me or what I have to say...I can resign my position or she is going to start the paper trail to fire me.

She also told me that if I say anything to anyone it will happen faster. I told her that needed to stay till December because I have to do my student teaching which is september to december, thats full-time days with out pay so that I can graduate and get my masters. She said she doesnt care and that she wont garantee I can stay that long.

So...I get a housing subsidy so my rent will drop when I lose my job. I am going to try and make an appointment to file for chater 7 bankruptcy with a lawyer, I know someone that had to too and I can get the name of her lawyer. And yes I am poor enough to file.

I also have to make an appointment at transitional assistance (welfare) to find out what my options are.

I need A job, ANY job. I know I have to scale down my resume to get something. So do I need to just show a high school education or should I put my associates too. I am pretty sure I shouldnt put my BA or that I am finishing a Masters program.

I am going to visit legal seafoods tomorrow, someone told me they were a good company to work for and they would train me.

Does anyone have any thoughts please??

Does anyone have any thoughts on health insurance for me? my kids are on thier fathers.

I can't believe this is happening to you, either-- with you so close to finishing grad school!

Are you sure you have to file for bankruptcy? I know I've seriously considered it a few times and now I'm glad I held off. December's not that far away. Maybe with the rent subsidy, and any other job, you can hold out until you graduate. Do you have teaching prospects for once you do graduate? Is there a possibility of getting into the school system now?

I don't know what to advise about getting a job to tide you over. Maybe you could scale down your resume for the seafood company, maybe you could even get away with just filling out a job application and not submitting a resume. What about going for that job and not telling them what you're doing in school right now... just explain your last job...?

Good luck and hang in there. Things will work out!

I think that filing chapter 7 is the way to go. I went on an interview today, it went very well and I made it to the second interview.

I have never been fired from a job. I dont want to be fired, its not something I can deal with. I have worked there for 8 years, what would I tell people when I apply for a job. when I apply for a teaching position in January.

They are building 2 new schools in the district I am in and they will be opening when i am applying so I have a good chance for september 2008.

I cant get a job while I am student teaching I have tried.

I am wondering if part of the reason I am getting fired is because I am so close to graduation.

Thank you

I can't believe they can just fire poeple, I have to fill out all kinds of paper work to fire anyone! It took me a month to fire someone who didn't come in on 75% of her shifts!

I have heard LEgal Seafoods is a good place to work and they make great tips. If yo ucan swing that maybe pt and try and get on at a SBUX for 20 hours a week, it's not what you want to do but you can get benifts as long as you work 20 hours a week, and I have worked with them for 4 years, I most of the time love my job and managers are pretty flexible with students and moms over hours they can work.
I am a manager at one now, and we are alwys looking for dependable people.

emial me if you have any questions

I think the message was that she is going to create the paperwork to have me fired or I could resign. I called and left a message asking if everything was ok with my letter and I am calling again tomorrow, because I dont need or want to be escorted from the building by security. That is what they do at my work.

My second interview for a job in a residential school for children with disabilities is july 10. I dont want to apply and accept a job and then quit.

For starbucks, on my application, how much education should I put. No resume and just high school or my ASS or my BA?

I have been working at a job i dont like for 8 years. Since I gave my resignation a huge weight has lifted.

Thank you

I would put all your ediction down they are one of the few that don't look at people as over qualified. We have a lawyer just out of school who works nights as a barista and several of us right around here with degrees. If you want email and we can talk more I haven't been on here much too busy but I check email. You are welcome to put me as a referred by. Good luck with the other interview!

I wouldn't worry so much about starting a job and then quitting, or even getting fired once, when compared to filing Chapter 11.

People get fired for all kinds of reasons these days and most hiring managers realize that much of the time it is related to company budgeting-- not employee performance.

Starting a job and then quitting may feel like a moral dilemma, but it sure is better than being out of work, watching your bills pile up and being totally stressed out. Bottom line: put your own finiancial interests first. Just about any business doing the hiring is in a better financial position than you are right now-- I would take any job that would pay the bills and move me towards my degree and a better job.

Since you resigned, you're not going to be eligible for unemployment compensation, so if bankruptcy is staring you in the face, taking a job you know you'll quit might be a better long-term choice. Bankruptcy would sting for many years. I know it's the popular thing to do nowadays, but it's still a pretty extreme way out. If you've got other options, use them. Because of it's long-term financial consequences (I've even heard employers look at bankruptcy negatively--my cousin was denied job opportunities because she was in Chapter 11), I'd exhaust everything before initating those proceedings.

I understand the stress you're under--and the relief that benkruptcy SEEMS it would provide, but please sleep on that one!

Thank you

I havent heard back from the lawyer yet, and its chapter 7 bankruptcy, blank slate. Now that you mention it, this job is doing a CORI, background check, and checking the sex offender list. Maybe its a good thing I havent talked to the lawyer yet.

I dont have much of a choice, I wont be able to pay my bills. Bankruptcy is for people like me in the situation. I have never not paid a bill in my life.

I dont want creditors calling here about unpaid bills. If it comes down to it, that is what I am going to do.

Once I graduate, things will be different.

I will have a better idea about what I am going to do after my July 10th interview. If I dont get the job, starbucks and legal seafoods, here I come. I can work anywhere if I know its just temporary. And if I like something, as a single mom I expect to be working two jobs forever. Its part of the job.

I talked to a supervisor who assured me I wouldnt be escorted out of the building by security and why did I think that. This is the same person that told me I wasnt being fired and why did I think that and then BAM 2 hours later, guess what.

This must be going around. I just talked to the former manager of my local video store and they did the same thing to her. what the hell is going on?

Chapter 7: A blank slate with nasty fine print.

I totally understand that you're feeling cornered and like there's no other option, but please take your time on this. Bankruptcy will hurt for a long time....

I've been un- and/or underemployed on and off for the past 3 years while I worked at contract technical writing jobs (the field is mostly contract-based) and I've been through many months of bill-paying stress. I considered bankruptcy when I was most overwhelmed, vulnerable and drowning fiancially.

This has just happened to you and you're understandably stressed. You haven't lost your job yet. Please try to take a deep breath, say your prayers, keep your faith that God will pull you through and make bankruptcy your LAST option.

I've heard of too many doing this who didn't realize how long term the consequences would be-- and I don't know anyone who's glad they did this.

Is there anyone here who filed bankruptcy and is glad they did? Please share your stories and help!

I am kind of excited about getting a new job. I am so done with healthcare. I would love to try something in a new field.

And I dont have to worry about healthcare because supposedly I can buy in through the state, I just apply through the commonwealth connector and they set my monthly fee from nothing to something. It is so cool.

This other mom I know is a paralegal and she said you dont have to be certified of licensed. I love doing research, I would love to be trained. You can work part-time or freelance. Maybe when I am done with my masters I can look into it for a part-time job, it sounds like a lot of work but fun.

I had to file chapter 7 because my ex left me with over $200,000 in debt. I was getting my paycheck garnished by someone I didn’t even know because he took out a personal loan from some Liquor store owner and used one of my personal checks to cover a payment which bounced. I have to tell you I had perfect credit before marriage, by the time I got my divorce I was in a deep financial hole. I even had the IRS garnishing my pay as well. And with the IRS you pay and pay and the darn amount never goes down because of all the penalties and interest. So I was forced into bankruptcy which turned out to be the best thing because now I have a clean credit report and a high credit rating. Once you file it’s up to you to take the proper steps to build your credit back up to good standings. Even with my bk showing I have been pre approved for up to $400,000 with a decent interest rate if I chose to buy a home. I still have 5 more years before the bk gets removed from my credit report.

I started the process today. I was referred to these lawyers by a friend and they are very nice. It is 299.00 to file and they charge a legal fee of 1000.00 to be paid as I can. Thank You God. I dont own anything and I am not behind in anything and it is still a lot of paperwork.

I can't understand why you need to file for bancruptcy, you said

"Thank You God. I dont own anything and I am not behind in anything and it is still a lot of paperwork."

how much debt do you need to "wipe clean"? is your credit score already shot? if you file your score will drop and be down for 10 years, that will cost you because your cost of money, to get a loan for anything (mainly a house and car), will be very high. it would be better if you could consolidate your debt now and pay it off and keep improving your credit score. i even think that if you only have a few debts you can't handle it would be better to default than file for bancruptcy. $200K is one thing, but if your debt is only a fraction of that I think it would be better to avoid such a credit killer as bancruptcy.

Because as of July 21st I will officially be unemployed and unable to pay my bills at all. I have to student teach from september to december full time with out pay so if i get a job it will be weekends only and I still wont be able to pay my bills. I may have to go to the transitional assistance office to just get through.

My rent it subsidized and it will drop with my income. I can shut off the phones and the cable. I will only have to pay my rent and my electric bill and feed us. I still have to pay off my car insurance though.

Basically I am flat broke and I wont be able to work enough to be able to live till february when I start seeing checks for th substitute teaching I will do in January.

My debt all together is 30,000, this may not seem like much to you, but considering I have no income and nothing saved because I live from paycheck to paycheck, its to much.

I have to decide between the rent and food or paying this off. I just havent been doing very well financially lately.

So my second interview went well. NOW, I have to have a drug test and do a 4 hour observation with the group I will be working with. If I pass the drug test..lol...and the person I observe with says that I am ok, I will be hired. But, I cant do the training for the job till August 13th. So I will be umemployed for a month. geesh

I still dont know how much it pays or if I will be getting benefits. Its a 24 hour a weekend position 8:30AM to 8:30PM Saturday and Sunday. If there arent any benefits, I can apply for health insurance through the commonwealth of massachusetts. But, MA doesnt have dental, only health.

All times are CT
