I am having to go back to work now..and I have a question..I have 3 kids. 2 are in school..2nd and 6th grade and one is 14 months old. Right now we are living with my sister and her husband. I have a feeling that our local social services only pays for day care when you are looking for a job..not after you get one. I don't get much child support from my 2 older kids father and the father of my baby has never paid a dime...How does a single mom work and be able to pay for day care?? I know without a doubt that my boys dad wont help me pay for before and after school care or summer care for them so I will probably have to take him to court..which I checked and I won't get much more than I am getting now..and I already don't get help from my daughters dead beat father...There is no way I can pay for day care or a sitter for them and be able to get our own place!! We really want to get out of here and have our own home again. I am really scared and worried!! I have no one in my family or friends who can babysit for me...any advice?

I am probably not the best person to give advice, I didn't get help from my ex at all and never qualified for any type of assistance. I belive from what others have said on here that you might be able to get daycare subsidies. I know in CA it is through the welfare department and they help even if you have a job but on more of a sliding fee scale.

It doesn't hurt to call and find out, or call around to see if there are agenicies that offer child care on a slinding fee scale. Also for the two older kids look into the YMCA or you local Recreation Department or even your school might have an after school before school program that are pretty inexpensive.
Lex attended the Y's program for several years and loved it and i only paid like $35 a week. Then her school started an afterschool program that was 35$ for 9weeks!

Thanks for the advice..I am planning on checking into the before and after school programs but it's summer I am worried more about, I guess. Plus full time care for my daughter. I have been told that the SS office of the city I live in only pays for child care while you are looking for a job or in school. I am 40 and I can't see me going to school..although if need be, I will. I will check into the Y...I am not sure what this areas YMCA offers.
Sadly, I am starting to feel desperate enough to talk to the father of my youngest and ask him if we can move back in with him...even though he abandoned us when I was pregnant and hasn't held a job since then. He lives in a house that his parents own...none of them has even wanted to meet his daughter...I know he would like to see her..but he knows I won't let him since he hasn't given me a penny in child support and hasn't even made an effort in seeing her....sadly he made a drop and run with a present for her on Christmas Eve...banged on the door and drove away and left it on the porch.
I feel sick in feeling that desperate. I have an appt with social services on the 9th..I guess I will find out then what I can do next.

All times are CT (US)
