So with the cost of electricity and gas and everything else going up I have to work as much as I can. I could only work the weekends over the summer because of classes and the kids.I just ran out of the money I had saved to tied me over till the school year started and I could start subbing again. For the first time in my entire life I overdrew my bank account and I have nothing. I had to go to my father and ask him if he could help me. I feel like a complete loser!! I couldnt sleep last night and then when I did I had nightmares. I just passed all of the state tests for licensure and I applied for a preliminary license to teach. So I applied at a few local places that tutor kids afterschool and one has already emailed me to come in and at least talk to them. I applied for a teacher's aide position at my kids school and I even applied at the local video store to make some extra money. I picked up two days subbing next week so I am hoping it is picking up as the schoolyear gets going. What am i going to do??? This has never happend to me. I have always managed to scrape by even if it was by pennies. Times are really tough. |

I am with you hon. Things will get better for both of us, well all of us. My account is overdrawn, haven't paid my phone bill and still have to pay for things at her school. I think I found a job, hopefully I can scrape by and come up with the money to fix my account and pay my phone until I get my first paycheck, then I still need to scrape by and just get by for the next few months so I can get out of this town. I can not wait to actually finish school or get back into classes so I have a little extra money. I do think all this stress has made me decide on arcitecture just so I can be finshed with school a bit sooner. I am tired of scraping by. I would one day like to know that bills are paid and I have enough in my bank account to go have dinner with a friend. Here's a thought a vacation, lex and I have never gone anywhere. I feel for you sweetie if we lived closer you could come over for coffee and we could cry on each others shoulder. |

I got a job one night a week at a video store right by my house so it will be another hundred a month AND free videos I picked up four days subbing in the next two weeks My kids school called me for an interview for a part-time job. A tutoring service called me for an interview for a part-time job. So in the end I am hoping to have at least four part-time jobs. Its a good thing I get full benefits from my weekend job at the hospital..can you believe this???? |

Don't we barely make it by the skin of our teeth? My temp job is being renewed WEEKLY right now. I am in head-to-head competition with another contractor doing the same kind of technical editing. Rumor says we may find out who they want to keep at the end of next week. If I lose this, I'm sunk. I have nothing saved and no family to ask for help. Please say prayers that my contract is renewed. I'll say prayers for you both, too.

I got a parttime job, 20 hours, as a teacher's aid in my kids school, the pay is ok. They said that I can do my student teaching while I work as an aide so that I dont have to be unemployed while I am doing it so I wont have to move into a homeless shelter. This is just sad... I took a minimum wage job one night a week at a video store near our house so we can get free rentals because I cant afford it anymore. So that makes three jobs. I have an appointment for an interview for a tutoring job on Tuesday. Job number 4 maybe?? |

I am going to have time to sleep but thats about all I will have time for.I am hoping that the tutoring works out and then I can quit the minimum wage video store job. This is all an act of total fear because I am really broke. |

it's my strong belief that churches need to step up to the plate alot more to help out single parents. I feel this is one area the church has so far largely not lived out their responsibility. My church does do a little bit at least, but in comparison with other ministries and how much money they give to those, it's more of a token....i feel that churches focus on giving large amounts of money often times to overseas missions, nothing wrong with that, but they should first or equally be helping those right there in their own community- single parents are largely overlooked in too many ways. It would be awesome if churches could start to get that, and offer things such as a needs ministry, you would apply and have to show some type of proof of income or lack thereof, and the *church* would step in to meet that, for a given amount of time, grocery store gift cards, gas gift cards, help with deposit for apartment if homeless, job pool--- it just should never be that a single parent is homeless, near homeless, jobless, not having money for food or gas. That is the responsibility of the church to step in to help meet those needs-- not the government. Besides financial, the church should also be a haven for single parents. Our church has a Thanksgiving dinner just for singles, a nice one, not a outdoor soup kitchen type one, but an indoor catered dinner, the only problem is it's not right on Thanksgiving, it's a few days before, is meant for those who maybe dont have familiy to get together with, but should be on the actual Thanksgiving. Now, if they need to have something on CHristmas Day for those who don't have family to spend it with. I have wished many a CHristmas day there was something, even a 2 hour banquet and maybe some activity for the kids, or a Christmas movie, or gift exchange.....the holidays are hard for singles and single parents. I appreciate what the churches do, but feel there is a lack for singles. |

I dont think the church really APPROVES of singles. Divorce is a nono, but single moms are ok because we are just whores which I think is jut hilarious. If we were actually acknowledged in the US there would be a whole lot of other things would have to change so I dont think it will happen. but those are good thoughts so keep them coming. |

i know of one church (yes, I know it's one out of hundreds but there may be more I dont know about in all fairness, so I'm not trying to put down churches!! They do do alot of good, I only wish they could open their eyes and see the struggling single moms and thier kids,,very sad) anyways this one church views single moms with alot of respect and love, they feel the Bible commands them to look out for single moms and children |
