I am a single mother of two girls, 11 and 15 and I'm disabled. I am totally broke. I have negative money in the bank, very little food, and am 2 or more months behind in rent, utilities, credit cards, and loans. Currently I own about $19,000. I need help! I live in the middle of now where where there aren't any food pantries or anything like that or churches that help low-income families. I have terrible credit but am on the list for getting a Habitat house if I get everything up to date within two months. But even then I won't get my house started to be built in 7 months or so. How can I get help? Does anyone know of a place that help single, disabled mothers? I have checked into credit consolidators but they usually want me to pay a certain percent, such as $2,000 to get out of debt which I think is way to much. Please help, I'm desparate!

if your disabled, and it can be proven by your Dr...you should be able to get some sort of disability from the goverment...also file for welfare that'll get you some cash and stamps for some food for your children...that's a start

I do collect disability and food stamps. And it should of been that I owe $19,000 not own. But thanks anyways. I did lose 5.2 pounds in 11 days though. I guess that's good. I don't eat unless both my girls have already eaten.

Cory,
i saw that, and thought she owns 13,000? I wish I owned that! SOrry for the hot water your in. here's a few ideas for help. First are you in a rural area where you cannot get to a church? If you can, find several large churches, OR synagogues. Ask for the number for a help organization bc you need immediate financial help, and be sure to say you have children. YOu may have to utilize several different places to end up w the amount of help you need. For instanc,e some churches will just give pantry items such as cereal, canned beans, etc. and used clothing. Other churches are more equipped and may offer grocery store gift cards, gas cards, and even a check for you to be able to pay some rent with ,etc. It just depends on the size and resources and beliefs also of the group. SOme places feel they dont want to give too much bc its taken advantage of, so they just give canned goods and minimal help.

If churches arent an option, you can look up organizations in a 'social service' directory in teh county you live in. I found a myriad of places that offer different help or referrals- not all or most of it isnt' financial, some if for counseling, some is for budgeting help, parenting groups, but there also was some for financial assistance.

Also do you have any friends, family, or close neighbors you could ask for help?

All times are CT (US)
