Well, I lasted 3 days in the doctor's office. It was ridiculous. The wife tries to run the office.... she's a lunatic.

She bad-mouthed (foul mouth) the whole staff to me behind their backs. She would call them f-ing idiots, go on and on about how stupid and incompetent they are, etc etc. To their faces, she was rude, abrupt and humiliating in tone (treats her husband like that, too). One of the employees resigned and left yesterday. The other is clammering to get out of there as soon as he can.

She wants to build an elite patient base: She doesn't want African-Americans, Asians, Indians, and "construction workers with their sucky insurance" coming into her office. She doesn't want people from Lenscrafters or WalMart-- if "if they don't see the value in more expensive eyewear, I don't want them in here." She would imitate overweight, under privileged people like they're fools.

A 70-year-old man came in to pick up his new glasses yesterday. She pulled them from the back room and said to me, "These frames are garbage. Just give them to him." I asked if we should see if they fit and are adjusted right.... she said no, they're garbage, just get him out of here. I just walked out and did what I thought was right... helped him make sure they were right, adjusted and cleaned his old frames and put them into a little bag. She didn't even want me to put them into a bag or anything for him!

That was it for me. I can't work for someone who can't treat people like human beings. She wouldn't let me fill out a time card all week, didn't have me do any of the normal paperwork... W-2, etc. I'll bet I don't even see a paycheck. I thought I might ask if they're going to pay me and tell them I'll return their key when my check is ready.

I accepted the pharma writing job and start Oct. 31.

Whew!

Errrrr I can’t stand people who think there S*%# don’t smell. I swear by you if I lived near you I would have gone into that place and made her suffer. Even if it meant me having to pick up a few extra toddlers with sticky fingers to accompany me while I took my time looking for the right pair of glasses. Then I would ask in a real loud voice if they accept Medical. Someone should file a suit against them, and as for her husband he needs to get a back bone. Good for you for not putting up with such scum. Ok I feel better now that I have vented about a woman I don’t even know. LOL I guess it doesn’t take much to get my shorts in a bunch.

LOl she did an episode where she was talking about a trip she went on with her girlfriends and people didn't know who she was but based on her skin color wouldn't let her in, because obvioulsy she oculdn't afford to shop there, yeah Oprah can afford your store.
People need to get over themselves life is too short to judge.

Another thing that really got to me was this... she acts as if she's running a boutique, selling fancy shoes or handbags-- or snobby perfume or something. Wake up!! This is a medical office!! People come in there as PATIENTS, not wallets! They come in vulnerable, more than likely nervous, maybe scared. They're literally putting the health of their EYES in these people's hands. I just couldn't believe her attitude. Everyone deserves the utmost care... to be treated with dignity and respect.

What an eye-opener for me. I mean, I know how people can be, and I know how racist and judgmental people can be. I was just shocked to see it come out of this sweet-sounding--- Jekyl and Hyde thing.

Maybe she put on a good act on the outside (although she did say that she's had it out with a couple of patients), but her real colors were so fake.

I feel sorry for anyone who walks through that door and has to deal with her. It's very unfortunate for her husband. I hear he's one of the best optometrists around here. People just love him. She's going to kill his practice.

I think you should somehow let your experience and feelings be known to the doctor. I don't think we should walk away from situations like this without doing something about it, even if it's only speaking one's mind.

I don't blame you for leaving. That would have left me fuming too. Things happen for a reason so maybe you were meant to take the pharmaceutical job after all! Wishing you all of the best!

I agree with you, Leigh. I have been giving this some thought. If I were to talk to anyone, it would be the doctor. I did drop hints to his wife about, for example, the business potential in welcoming a larger base of people and the importance of good customer service. She would just wave me away.

I talked for over 2 hours yesterday with the woman who had resigned the day before me. It sounds as if those attitudes are there to stay.

Truthfully people like her will NEVER change. I know from experience, my grandmother was the same way and she to her last day was as suborn as a mule. For all we know her husband is probably a victim of an abusive relationship and fears he will lose it all if he leaves her. Did they not question why you left?

I am sorry to hear that things didn't work out. She sounds just like the wife of the doctor I used to work for. Just like this lady, all she was worried about was money money money, and all the doctor was worried about was seeing patients and being a good doctor.
Well I hope that the other job works out for you!
