I have decided that I need a change and intend to start job hunting. Things are going well on my job but I have simply reached a point where I a change and more money. Anyone out there get to a point where they just get bored and need to do something else? I am good at what I do but I have been doing the same thing for way too long.

Grace,

Yup-- I know what you mean. I'm tired of what I'm doing too--- job searching! How ironic....

Good luck with your search! I'm finally getting nibbles at that pharma co. I want to get a permanent job with. Also, going to start at the doctor's office and work that in with the contract writing assignments with the pharma co.

Thanks. The thing is that I want to go back to school and I don't see any way to fit it in my budget right now. The bank I work for has tuition reimbursement if I take classes that pertain to my job. Here is the problem, I want to make a complete change. I started in banking years ago because I had the skills and found I was good at it. I was promoted quickly and now I am an officer with all of the perks, not enough pay, but lots of perks. However, I am bored and have known for some time that I need a change. Sigh...life is never easy.

I want to go back to school, too. I think the trick is to be working for a company that will pay for your advanced degree. If you want to completely change fields, maybe it would be worth your while to find another job and then think about going back to school.

I am trying to make my choices very carefully. I need to focus on saving for the future, so in my case I would need to have my tuition reimbursed by an employer. I can't imagine taking on major student loan debt right now.

I only took on Student loan debts because the field I am going into has so few members in the proffesional organization that they are offereing to write off up to 80% of my student loans once I have worked in a childrens hospital for 2 years. Depending on what you are looking into many highly specialized fields are writing debt off under certain circumstances. Just a thought to look into.

I am studying audiology, which I dearly love and feel we need many more audiologists. But, unless you want to spend at least 6 more years of school full time I don't reccomend it. In order to work you are now required to have at least a clinical doctorate if not a Ph.D. so that means at least 60 credits of undergrad work (on top of any general ed classes needed) and then four years for a clinical doctorate or 6-7 for a Ph.D.
I know they are trying to get a bill passed to get speech and language pathologists loans "forgiven" as they do for many teachers depending on where you you practice.

Right now I feel like I am going to be in school forever. I have been up everynight until 2 or later trying to decide which Ph.d programs I am applying to and get the apps filled out, plus dropping 50 bucks a pop and paying for my gre test and plane tickets to go tour the grad schools. Right now we are looking highly at Columbus OH and Arizona. I do like the idea of Oh and having seasons! I live in CAli so it is Hot and Rain. no fall, no real winter no spring straight from 50degrees to 90 degrees. And I am enjoying the nice cost of living compared to here!THe school for Lex is right down the street ok , well 2 miles is better than 90. PLus it is an amazing school ranking the top 10 in my field.
Good luck finding your passion. I think it is important to do what you love. when I was deciding whether or not this was truly my field I spent weeks in prayer and wrote down every choice I had when it came to school it always no matter what I was feeling when I started writing was the first thing that went on my list

I know what I want to do. The problem is finding a way to finance the training. When I met my ex husband I was studying psychology but I had to quit because we went to live overseas for a couple of years. When I came back I had my daughter so I found a job at a bank and went back to take business classes. About 8 years ago I went back again but the divorce happened so once again I had to quit. I only need 3 semesters and my masters to do what I want, so I need to find a way to pay the school fees. Actually, I have thought about getting a second job so I can get myself basically debt free except for my house payment, then applying for a student loan or financial aid. I don't like living paycheck to paycheck and I don't like being buried in debt so the second job seems like a step in the right direction. I was thinking that if I find a job now I could take one class next semester and start part time in the fall of 2006.

Try focusing your degree towards a specific field in psychology that might help open up doors to funding. Such as working with autistic kids or abused kids, or a "narrowed" field sometimes organizations that work in specialty fields will help you pay for college and give you a place to get inter hours
Good luck, it hate being broke but going back to school is the best descion I ever made.

I love psychology - I was going to major in that but decided on education instead. Like you, I'd love to go back and get a degree of some kind in that. I dream of counseling women who are in emotionally abusive situations and helping them to have the self-esteem they need to not allow themselves to be treated that way.
What kind of degree are you wanting and what type of job would you like to have?

I have always wanted to work with Jr High and High School kids. Originally I thought about becoming a high school counselor but after looking into that it wasn't what I wanted. I am actually thinking about kids in high risk situations and have been doing some volunteer work with a couple of places. I love it and would really like to study psychology or sociology. What I want to do won't make me rich but it will enrich my life. It is a big change from banking but I could use a big change right now.

What I want to do would only take a master's degree. I don't want to be a psychiatrist but I would rather utilize my existing business skills by adding a degree in either psychology or sociology to either work directly with kids or help organize programs for the kids. After doing some research, I found out that I could get a BS then a masters and I have everything I need to do get into what I want. This has been a rough week at work and my boss and I are not seeing eye to eye on something. I am angry about the situation, so I have been a little more proactive than normal in looking into future possibilities. My resume has been sent out to more job possibilities in the last 3 days than I have sent out in the last 3 months. Who knows. Maybe this is God's way of motivating me.

it might just be him pushing you in the direction he wants you to go. It took me getting fired from a job, I hated but was doing well, I never got a real reason for the firing but, it was shortly after I complained about my direct boss asking the female workers what kind of underwear they were wearing or comments like that. I should have sued life would be easier now. But I believe in Kharma and didnt want it on my bad side, he got fired and divorced shortly after, it does come around.
