I have a 60lb pit/lab mix. I had agreed to dog sit my daughter's German Shepherd puppy this weekend. Thursday I took my dog to her place so the dogs can play while I helped the girls hang some shelves. Her roommate has a 5lb Cairn Terrier. The moment I walked in the door that 5lb ball of fluff started yapping at my dog who promptly ran and hid behind my legs almost tripping me. At one point the little fluffball was chasing my 60lb pit down the street. The Terrier was barking and growling while my dog whined and ran. The neighbors thought it was a hoot! Finally, my dog discovered that the little one can't jump high enough to get on my daughter's bed so she spent then entire time huddled on the foot of her bed half under a blanket while my daughter's puppy guarded her from the ferocious fluffball. She is so timid that if one of the dogs tries to steal her food, my bruiser just stands back and watches them helplessly, then comes in to me with a pathetic look. My Pit is supposed to be the bruiser, not the 5lb yorkie or a 25lb puppy! I decided that my dog wants to be a lap dog when she grows up but she can't because she was born in a bruiser's body.

I have a pitmix as well and she is quite the wuss. A little yappy thing on the walking trails the other day jumped up and nipped her on the cheek and my big bad bully laid down and piddled herself. People fearfully pick up their little yippers when they see us and it sometimes ticks me off...it is those little yippers that are the biters!

My pit needs to develop some courage but you are right, the little nippers all have a bad case of short dog syndrome =)
