Tuesday at work, I rescued two kittens. Hannah now lives with Sars best friend and Noah lives with us. He's going to be Sars cat. Well, Noah got caught up in someones wheel well and ended up with a fractured leg and a scratched up chin. I brought the two kittens home in a box and showed Sar. She was so excited! She picked out Noah because he was hurt and she wanted to take care of him. Anyway, I explained to her that someone left them in the parking lot and they didn't have a home. With her most empathetic voice, she looked at them and said, "Oh you poor bums, we'll take care of you." She heard the word and I had to explain to her what it meant. Now everyone who doesn't have a home is a bum! We'll have to talk about negative connotations and all that at some point, but I was too busy laughing to correct her at that moment! |

I had a good laugh, When i told bec about it, i then had to explain that the word bum over there means homeless not " backside "like it does over here, then i had to go on and explain that over here a homeless person is called a tramp, it got lost in translation a bit, but that made me laugh also. We then had a lesson in the meanings of lots of words. Why is nothing ever easy lol. |
