My son was born with a minor disability. We live in KY. My sons father left me when I was 12 weeks pregnant.. During my pregnancy I talked to him about 5 times.. He never offered to take me to my Ob/Gyn or the high risk doctor I had to see 100 miles away. I thought about not calling him once I had my son, but I did. He came to the hospital, stayed with me there {we weren't together or anything} and then he acknowledged that he was the father. Although he didn't sign the birth certificate. We were never married. The day I came home from the hospital with my son he came to my house and stayed 5 minutes. I haven't seen him since then and my son is 9 weeks old. I have been receiving KTAP {KY transitional assistance payment} and he'll have to pay it back kind of like a child support thing. Now that its coming down to it he wants a paternity test which I am perfectly okay with.. My bigger question is after paternity is established will they automatically give him visitation.. or since my child has a disability can they wait until it is "repaired." Should I get a lawyer? Since I am the only one on the birth certificate do I already have sole custody? Any advice or links you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I am just so scared 'cause my son is my everything and with his disability I am scared he won't be properly taken care of. I want him to see his father, when the time is right. Maybe the courts will just give him supervised visitation? Thank you all Katrina |
