All i read about child support is nobody pay child support!!!! I thought those things just happened in countries like mine ( mexico) but in here?? everything seems so right all the time, i can not believe what i am reading. So the 98% never recieve a dime of child support??? wow that is very scary |

where did you get that 98% don't get support? I am sure that is not correct. Every state has a child support enforcement agency and they have the power to take child support directly out of a person's paycheck and deposit it directly to the other parent. it is the most common way that child support is enforced. Definitely do what you can to get the support you and your child deserve. |

I think shawn is right, 98% doesn't seem right. I filed for support in May, and I am receiving support now. In Kansas the law is that support is automatically taken from paychecks.I think that the reason it seems like all you hear about is the stories where one parent is owed some $15,000 or something like that because those of us that do get support don't really have much reason to talk about or ask questions about it. I hope that makes sense. |

I don't think 98% is correct but, I have been fighting for my support for 8 years and have not received a dime. I have been to court several times. They have been trying to take it out of his pay. But his ss# is not showing any employment. My son father is the type that quits his job or gets paid under the table. So here in my state NJ they stated unless they can catch him working there is little they can do.. So at this point I am going though a outside agency. supportkids.com. Because the state has done nothing to help at all. |

I agree 98% doesn't seem right. I know lexies dad doesn't pay and is tens of thousands in arrears but, I would like to think he is the minority not majority. If I were you I would file and hope for the best but not count on that money being there every month. Use what you get to pay off bills, save it or use part of it for some fun with your child. The very brief time he did pay a total of maybe $500 (in thirteen years) part went in her saving account and part went to bills and the other 1/3 we went out to dinner and a movie. anyways good luck

My problem getting support is like Jaysmom's. Either he doesn't work or works under the table. The other problem is that when he does get a job they can actually monitor and deduct from, it takes them literally months to find him and by that time he may have quit again. The sickening thing in my situation is he makes double what I do when he CHOOSES to work. I wish I had that luxury! (Or had a ex like some of the guys on the post here that actually take care of their children.) |

actually 98% is incorrect..Every state has statistics that are provided to federal government on a fiscal year basis. it's a mangement/statistics thing..I can tell you some figures for CA..Out of all cases in CA, child support collection is at 83%, which means that out of all the money owed combined, 83% was collected for the fiscal year. The goal is to have it higher, of course, but only for the fact that it can give the state an oppurtunity to receive federal programs monies...Also, they count what is collected towards arrears, which is a lot lower of circa 65%, which means out of all combined arrears, only 65% was collected for the year..For some they might think these numbers are low, but actually are quite high compared to previous years.Alejandra, It's always good to have the supp |
