My husband died 4 months ago in a horrible work related accident. My 3 year old cries everyday for him to come home, he talks to him, he tells me he doesn't want his daddy to be dead. I am at a loss for words when he is so upset. Resently he has been talking about someone by the name of "purpose", he says that purpose is in heaven with his daddy, just yesterday he told me that his daddy was in a box, and it was full of fire (his daddy was cremated). When I asked him who had told him that, he told me purpose did. It makes me so sad for my child to be so sad, I need someone to tell me how to try and help me, help him to understand. Can anyone help?? |

Wecome to the site. I'm so sorry for your and your son's terrible loss. Is it possible that there is an adult in his life who could be discussing these things with him-- and whose name he mispronounces as 'purpose'? Did he know that your husband was cremated? His grief sounds normal to me, but I'm certainly not a psychologist or anything. I would imagine that he's suffering terribly and is too young to express how he feels. It must be so frustrating and painful for you, too. Have you looked into grief counseling? |

There is a wonderful group called the SOlace tree. Website is www.Solacetreee.org, or go to any Starbucks location to get information abuot the one in your area. It is designed to help children who have suffered the loss of a loved one and their parents as well. I volunteer with ours out here it is an amazing organization. he is young, he may be talking to someone as Blue said. An dif he is is it possible that that person tried to explain what cremation was, what he says about being in a box of fire sounds like what a 4 year old might get out of someone trying to explain cremation. Is there someone from his side of the family that he sees that maybe does not agree with the choices made or that you might not have a good relationship with. I would recommend greif counseling, if you go to a church ask the pastor to talk to him or see wha ttype of service they can offer, most pastors now adays are liscenced family therapists. I am very sorry for you loss, please reach out to someone to help yourself and your child through this. |
