I am a surgical dental assistant for a periodontist. He specializes in dental implants.Financially, yes, dentures are cheaper but they don't last and are very uncomfortable. You will eventually have to replace the denture adding additional cost to the once 'cheaper' option of a denture/partial.
Of all the patients coming through our office, I have yet to hear a customer complain at the finished outcome of a dental implant. There are numerous dental insurance companies now that have added dental implants to their plans. We have even had patients come through who went with the denture or partial initially and then changed their minds later on and have said they wish they went with implants in the first place.
In the short term, it's more expensive to place implants but in the long run, it's well worth it.
Absolutely go for a 2nd opinion! I would recommend it to anyone. Call different offices as well and see if you can get a 'quote' as to what it would cost. I know in my office, if you call and say you're needing a 2nd opinion, the dentist will most usually give a free consult with the hopes you will go with his office for treatment. Do your homework!
Good luck!
