I know that some of guys and gals here are teenage children and I am hoping that either yourselves or your children have gone through this, so I am fishing for advice here.

I am getting my wisdom teeth pulled on Saturday. I have heard some suggestions from a few people, but I am a little nervous - this is the first time I am going under (at least since I have been old enough to remember). Any advice for a fast recovery after this procedure??

I had mine pulled in my twenties and I just did wha tthe dentist said don't drink through a straw (can cause dry sockets) no smoking(um don't anyways wasn't hard to stop ) Took the pain medicine he gave me which was just a higher dose of abasically tylenol because I don't like to take anything stronger if I can help it. and kept ice on it, frozen peas work best because they mold to your face unlike a clunky bag of ice.
good luck .

I love that I typed 'some of you ARE teenage children' instead of some of you HAVE teenage children (the mistakes we make when we are in a hurry!)

Thanks for your advice gals. I was a litte concerned because my dentist's office said I would be fine the next day, but the oral surgeon's office said I wouldn't even be 100% by Monday. I just don't like getting conflicting advice...

Are your wisdom teeth impacted? Mine were not and when I had them pulled, I was in the chair all of 15 minutes. The pain was really minimal. Follow your oral surgeon's advice and you'll be fine

Oral tissue is one of the fastest healing in the body--

Thank you everyone for your advice.

My bottom 2 teeth were impacted - those were the worst. The surgery only lasted about 20-30mins. They put me completely under, so there are a few hours from my day on Saturday that I don't remember at all. I am healing fairly well - it is pretty sore, but they gave me some pain meds. I called today because I am out of pain meds. She said the 3-5 days are the worst. They called in a refill for me and said that if I am not feeling much better tomorrow, then I should come in to be treated for dry sockets.
Yesterday I ate solid food for the first time. It was so good, but painful!

Thanks for your concern! I am doing a little better. I went back to the doctor to ask about the pain. He instructed me to apply warm rags to my face 3 times a day to help relieve the muscle spasms. I don't really think it is helping too much, but I don't have time to go back, so I am dealing with the pain, which is getting better.
I spoke with my dentist a few days ago. She is sending me to a specialist to have a biopsy of my tongue - they think I have a syndrome. Who knows - but I figured since I have already met my deductible for this year, why not?
