Hello ladies,I am just tired and tired of being sick in tired. I tired of running from bill collectors, dealing with rebellious teenagers, people judgemental attitudes, one family income, being overweigh... I am just tired!! I am ready for new life. I keep telling myself there is a better life for me and things just have to get better. I know a lot of my problems stem from being overweight. I don't feel good about the way I look. I am a beautiful woman, but overweight. I had tried an exercise regimen back in March and had lost 35 pounds. However, I have regained all of it back due to my stressful, financial depleted life. I am a horrific stress eater who finds instant gratification in food. While I am eating it, I know I am messing up, but its the only thing that keeps me from thinking about my depleted finances and dreadful life. Perhaps that is why my children are off balance and not do so well in school. They may experiencing my stress. I don't know what to do, but I know in order to change the situation, I first have to feel good about myself. I tell myself each day, today is the day I will begin my new diet, eating just leafy foods, then a financial bombshell gets thrown my way and I am right to where I started and completely forgot about my diet. I want a new life, attitude toward life, and look!! Who can give me some directons as to where I should begin or what I can do? If you don't have any thoughts on my problems, I just appreciate having this chat board to vent. This is a God sent. Thanks for listening.

Hi,I certainly have my share of extra pounds, but I've never been a stress eater. I just eat too much of the dinners I cook! I don't have a lot of insight into this problem, but I do know someone who does... Oprah. I've subscribed to her magazine for 2 years and have to say that she offers tremendous support and insight into this problem. She might have something that speaks to your heart. Just one little idea-- hope it's something to consider. |

Forget the word diet and stop buying junk food and keep your fridge and cupboards filled with healthy foods. Now being that you are a stress eater you will need to replace that with something else you find comforting. What sorts of things do you like doing? As for loosing weight, use small plates when serving your portions and break your meal down to 6 meals a day. I always drink water with every meal with the exception of an occasional glass of wine or cranberry juice during dinner. Don’t focus on your weight but rather your health. Your health is more important than anything else. Get involved in some sort of sport. I have had moms’ on my basketball team who are in there 50 and over weight that have went down 2 pant sizes, and are feeling great as well as looking great! There confidence level has risen. I have never had a weight problem but that doesn’t mean I don’t know what you are going through, I have two sisters who have always had weight problems. Most important you have to stop feeling sorry for yourself, find a friend who you can depend on to give you some tough love. List all your problems on paper and tackle them one at a time. When dealing with your finances ask yourself what can I do differently to make my money stretch, then do it! Learn to be frugal it really helps, I recycle and at the end of each month I use that money to pay for my son’s hair cut, and buy us lunch. I just saved myself $30. I sell snacks at my job, with the money I get I use it to pay for my children’s school lunches I just save myself another $40. That’s a total of $70 a month on just those two things. I actually enjoy finding new ways to save money. Make your troubles your personal challenge and be determined to find a way out of your financial wows and problem solve how you can improve your personal life and health and emotional well being. Make “I CAN DO IT!” your motion. Good luck and know I’m rooting for you. |

First I like to compliment this chat board. It is the best and place where true women and men can talk openly and honest about whatever! Also, thanks for the suggestions on how I can make things better. I know it has to start within me and I will definitely start on a TO DO LIST. I just like to share one thing, although this forum may not be the appropriate place to submit it. I just want to say that GOD is AWESOME when you truly believe and have faith. I got paid today and my first thought was how am I going to pay all my bills with this little check. I was petrified and fearful of the outcome. Well GOD spoke to me today and moved me in directions I would have never gone in otherwise. I faced each bill collector openly and honestly and told them my financial situation and they were unbelievable compassionate and displayed genuine empathy and drew up a workable financial plan for me to help me get up-to-date on my accounts. It was remarkably, magnificcent and I was simply out done and wanted to cry. Each financial place did that for me. I know it was nobody, but GOD and I just thought I share that with you all today. That has given me hope and a new perspective of my life. I know I can make any change for my life the better to benefit me, so hope is indeed on the top of my list. It is still a struggle, but I know God will help me fight the battle. Thanks again for the encouraging words and positive outlook of life. |

He is there for us all and i am glad he was there for you. It never fails to get to me that whenever we need him, he comes to us.I always say that if? and when i get to heaven, he will make me sit in a corner and not say a word as he is know doubt so sick of the sound of my voice talking to him all the time he will want some peace and quiet lol. I have a saying thats goes, "i hope i am in heaven half an hour before the devil knows i am dead" lol. god bless, -x-x- [This message has been edited by JAYJAY (edited 11-19-2005).] |

Millie - That's awesome!I too am a stress eater. The advise about not buying junk food is key. I try to keep fresh fruits in the house at all times and eat them whenever I need a quick fix. Just by doing that this year, I've dropped 13 pounds. Unfortunatly, I've had some insane amounts of stress in my life the last two months and have started munching again. This morning I threw out the last bit of chips. I've gained back 3 pounds and I know if I keep it up, I'll gain the rest. The only bad thing about that, is that eating is like a nicotine fix. For the first week or two, I'm going to be a bit of grouch because my comfort munching is gone - Grrr! Anyway, it sounds like you are on the right track and that God working to help you fix the things that you need to fix! Come back and chat with us often! Blessings, Deb |

Millie, I know I just breeze through here with these quick responses, but I am thinking of you otherwise! Changing these patterns take a lot of support, resolve, and resources. You have the support here, it sounds as if you have the desire, and resources are everywhere. I guess I'm kind of multi-resource oriented. I am an ex-smoker (quit in 1988) and remember how I had to pull everything together to finally quit for good. Every little bit of inspiration and advice and determination all add up to something doable--- if you'll make the committment to change. Choosing a healthy lifestyle is about choosing to live longer and better. That is the starting point in any body-health lifestyle change. I love reading material that inspires me! In addition to Oprah's inspiration, isn't Dr. Phil's book supposed to be really good? I don't lean toward mass media.... unless it is of value. I think these 2 have something powerful to say. Again, the information is there for the taking. Oprah was very overweight and dealt (and how!!-- look at her now) with her stress-eating challenges. I hope to hear that you're building your support and resource system to tackle this. As quitting smoking was, it is a choice-- albeit difficult, but a choice all the same. Cheers and best wishes to you! |

Hi, it seems that things are looking brighter that's good. I was just thinking about how I relate because recently I have been an emotional eater. I lost 30 lbs within the last 4 months, but have recently just shoved all those good eating and excercise habits out the door. I gained 4 lbs in the last few weeks, I know that isn't bad, but is it going to stop? Everyday I tell myself I am going to get back on track. But than all these worries bombard my mind. And I just say forget it I need pie. And to make things worse I feel bad about this and have another slice of pie. |

Briarose pleae don't feel bad. I am trying so hard to keep my focus and not return my stressful eating habits, but with all whats going on in my life right now, it's almost impossible to stay focus and today I didn't stay focused.I messed up terribly bad. I ate some cookies that I know isn't good for my new life I am trying to create, but sometimes we just mess up, which is what makes us human. So tomorrow, I will start my journey again because I have to do it for my health, peace of mind, and happiness within myself to be able to handle other issues that I am dealing with. Once again, don't feel bad. We all mess up. |

Yes, you are right! Today I did my excercise video and I am going to make a planned menu for the rest of the week. I wont beat myself up about it anymore. And if I do repeat this than I will remind myself that it's okay. |

Portion control!-- how do you get a handle on portion control? I cook healthy foods, but eat enough to kill a horse. How do you learn when to push away from the table? |

Blue pushing away from the table is the hardest thing, especially since you cooked the food. For myself, I now fix myself food in a smaller dish, instead of a large plate and drink plenty of water to fill me up quicker and I found it works. Dont get me wrong it is still a struggle for me, but that strategy keeps me from over eating after cooking a really tasty meal. So Bluebird, stop tasting the food to test the seasoning, eat in a smaller container, drink lots of water, and find something to distract your mind from a second serving. I still have ways to go and have to control that stress eating because that is what kills me. It is not my cooking because I control how much I intake. It is the cookies, chips, pies, and cakes when I am stressed, but I am determined to keep fighting. Well, I hope I gave you a few good tips. Good Luck Also I stopped tasting the food because by the time the food was finished, I had already had at least two servings just from tasting. . At first, I would stuff that little dish so that it could be equivalent to my usual serving, but then I realized I was defeating my purpose and just stop cold turkey. I However, once you gain the will power and resist the temptation, you eventually come adapnew habiit because habitualIf you are anything like I was when I cooked, IBy the time the food actually finishes, you already had |

WILL POWER, millie you hit the nail on the head. What has happened to will power, when i was younger i had so much will power it was coming out my ears. Now i can have it for a while then it has gone. I tell myself i am older and hopefully wiser and still the lack of control gets the better of me. I am in control of every other area of my life, except my choc addiction. Oh well better put down this choc bar and have something healthy for breakfast..

Millie,Thank you-- I think the tasting is a lot of it. That and the portions I serve myself. Oh hell, it's the seconds, too. I just need a complete overhaul program. How about someone else cooking my meals?? That is the best solution I can think of JAYJAY, You and my daughter... the chocolate. She was the first person I had ever seen fall to her knees begging for chocolate-- no kidding. |

Hey Blue, send her over, we could have a great time pigging out, lolI have heard of patches that should stop the chocolate craving, i have thought of getting some to see if they would help me, but i know i would only end up eating the patches. You know what they say chocolate is better than don`t you believe it, both at the same time is heaven. -x-x- |

Hey JAY JAY, Now they're saying chocolate is very very good for you-- especially dark chocolate. Moderation being the key-- I can't imagine you needing to give it up. |

I don't like giving foods up. I start to get mad cravings for them and then over eat when I have them in the house. I like to lower the amount and go ahead and have them every now and then. It's worked great over this past year and I'm down 13 pounds. |
