Better known as skin cancer. It's the type that is not deadly and doesn't spread but I had a spot removed from my cheek (close to the side of my nose) the other day. So now I have about an inch of stitches in my face. The spot was small, kind of like a mole, so I don't understand why my cut was so much bigger. They did a surgery called Moh's surgery where they remove bits at a time and examine it under a microscope to be sure it's all gone. Have any of you ever had this?

A friend of mine brought this up the other day. She said they work to take out so much healthy tissue to ensure that all the stray cells are take out. Her cuts ended up being about 3" around and 1" deep. That stuff scares me. I have a boatload of moles all over the place...

Glad they caught yours.

Wow, I'm glad mine wasn't that big. I guess I'm lucky with a one inch cut! Did your friend have to have plastic surgery to repair it? There was a lady in there who had to schedule plastic surgery after hers was done.

Leigh,

I had the same thing on my shoulder. The doc took a chunk out and I have the scar to prove it. It scared the daylights out of me. I'll never see tanning the same way again.

I am very fair (redhead), so don't try to tan a lot anyway. I was burned quite a few times as a child, so will probably have to deal with this again.

Signs of trouble: moles that change size and color and-- what happened to me-- an itchy spot that peeled and peeled, wouldn't go away, just kept peeling and itching. The itchy spot had a "pearly" appearance to the skin. Basal cell carcinoma.

Sunscreen is so important! And get your skin checked once a year now, too.

That scar will fade-- sorry this happened. Richard's right-- keep that Vita E on it and keep it moist while it heals. Moist healing scars less (my nurse mother taught me that one).

Thanks Richard and Bluebird. I'm fair too - blonde, blue eyes. When my sister and I were young we would lather up in oil and scorch in the sun! Wow, that was stupid. I'll get those vitamin E capsules.

Just a suggestion. Take zinc. Zinc is a healer of tissues. I had my daughter by
c-section but I have no scar. Every day my mom in law would bring me this nasty fish soup and stand there while I drank it. She couldn't explain because her english wasn't good but she told me it would help me heal. I knew she went to a lot of trouble to get the fish and prepare the soup so I choked it down every day. My ex's dad told me the soup is a Chinese remedy to help the healing so that there is no scar. I asked the Dr. and he said that this particular fish is very high in zinc and zinc is one of the best for healing tissue and reducing scars. To this day I have the kids take zinc if there is a cut of anything significance and they have no scars.
