I'm personally not doing this (if I had a training partner, I'd probably want to do it as a personal competition between the two of us...LOL), although I am saving the issues for when I plateau and need some new ideas (actually, I think I'll NEED it after my planned bulk for next winter ). But I thought some of you might want to check this out in the April 2003 issue of Muscle & Fitness magazine...not so that you can enter the competition (unless you want to), but because it would make a good training schedule if you don't have one of your own. It totally plans everything out for you, including weight training, cardio and meals (based on 1,800, 2,100 and 2,400 calorie diets).

It's not for bulking (for the first 2 weeks, the reps are really high...meaning you'll be using light weights so you'll be able to complete the sets...and the 4th week is circuit training), but for cutting while retaining muscle. The schedule changes every week so you're constantly "shocking" your system.

If you want to follow the program exactly as it is meant to be followed, you'll need to plan to purchase the May and June issues of Muscle & Fitness as well. Anyway, looks like fun and it's a good way to get started with a healthy lifestyle or a good change of routine if you find yourself bored with your current workouts. If you're interested in checking it out, you'll want to read pages 132-146 in the April issue.

Also, if you're absolutely new to weight training, you might want to find a trainer (or a friend who knows what they are doing ) to help you with exercises you aren't familiar with. If you don't have access to either of those things, there are also a lot of websites that explain weight training techniques (and what NOT to do) so you don't end up hurting yourself. Don't be afraid to start out light...correct form is more important than anything else. Once you have that down, you can work on adding weight (don't be afraid to lift heavy, ladies!).

Good luck to anyone who takes this on. And have fun!

All times are CT (US)
