Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone would be interested in helping each other get healthy....some may need to lose weight, others may just need to exercize.About a year ago I joined WW and lost almost 30 pounds. I got to my 'official' goal weight right around the time that I became separated. I was doing so well with exercize and eating properly, but after that I am barely maintaining my goal weight..I keep going up and down and up again. I started seriously today (why wait until Monday...start now!) and I feel better already! I have many good (and of course EASY & FAST) recipes and many good tips to share. I would love to hear any thing that works for you guys too...exercize...recipes or quick lunch ideas. Anyway, hope to hear from you.... Nicole |

I agree support would be nice. I'm waiting for approval from my dr. to begin an exercise program and I KNOW it'll be getting hard to continue once the exercise aches start. Thanks for the offer. I'll check in when I feel like jumping off the exercise wagon! I know I need to stay healthy but boy, do I get tired of feeling tired!!! |

I go to the gym 3 times a week, and I know when I stop going for whatever reason--I'm sick or my son is sick and I don't want to put him in the nursery--that it is so hard to get back into the swing of things. A couple weeks ago they were re-doing the floor and they had loud machines and chemical smells, so I kept my son out for a week. I feel tons better when I do go and my outlook is better too. I need to workout more than this now.I haven't actually started eating really well yet, although I am trying to transition to a vegetarian diet. So if anyone has some tips or advice, or even a really good book to read about what you can and can't eat, I'd appreciate it.

MamaCat-I have a couple of no meat recipes I can share. The kids and I HATE meat. Pork makes me gag and I just don't care for red meat and how it makes me feel. The kids have recently started turning their noses up to meat, too. We eat a lot of chicken and pasta, etc. I eat fish. My favorite snack is albacore tuna, FatFree mayo, diced apples, and a dash of hot sauce (no I"m not pregnant). I have some good pasta recipes and the usual: Veggie enchiladas and veggie lazagna. Look up some tofu recipes too. Tofu is great because it takes on the taste of what ever it is cooked with. |

Karmicways, I don't do recipes, per se, I more just throw things together. Tonight I tossed cooked angelhair pasta with artichoke hearts, tomatoes, and black olives, and a little olive oil and some spices. We had that with corn on the cob and french bread. I am sort of looking for instruction on becoming a vegetarian. I'm also doing the no dairy, no eggs, no cheese, no fish thing. Trying to avoid heart disease and pesticides. A lot of things, like veggie sausage and whole wheat waffles still contain egg whites, which of course are still eggs. I have a good recipe for chickpea spread, that I will make later tonight. Getting tired of peanut butter and jelly for lunch! I guess I could use a few easy recipes.

vegitarianism was horrible for me personally. My cholesterol was higher, had less energy and gained weight like a cow ( wonder why? I was eating like one). Careful that you dont fill up on grains which are fattening and sugars. Too much sinple carbs and your insulin goes up. If you stick to mostly veggies and legumes and fruits, you should be pretty well off. If you succume to the pasta, potato, and rice way of eating, you may find yourself gaining ( like most feed cows do). Good luck |

Was it here or somewhere else that referred me to vegsource.com? Anyway, I looked it up the other day and they have a connection to John McDougall's site. He has written several books on how to eat healthily, and I picked up the one about Maximum Weight Loss, and started reading it yesterday. He says Not to use oils because it's all fat, and not to use olives, nuts, or soybeans, including tofu because they are fatty vegetables (if you want to lose weight). He also emphasizes eating the whole grains--wheat, oatmeal, bulgar (sp?), brown rice, whole wheat pasta, and to stay away from the processed foods. And sugar is better than fat, but just to add it to oatmeal after it's cooked or whatever else you want to add it to, not to go nuts with it in processed foods. Also stay away from meats, eggs, and dairy. So I will try it once I finish reading the book. I guess if you eat a lot of the processed stuff you do gain weight because it's sugar. The zucchini and squash sound good in the pasta. I used to eat whole wheat stuff, but somehow got back into eating the other stuff. I have an excellent recipe for a basil chickpea spread. It uses about 4T oil, 2 (15oz) cans of rinsed and drained chickpeas, 2T lemon juice, 1 tsp basil, garlic powder and salt to taste. Put it food processor (put in oil last and add about 2T at first and add the rest as you go as you need it) and mix up til it makes a paste or spread consistency. I put it on fresh bread or toasted whole wheat bread. It's very good. But there's the oil. I read you can use bananas instead of oil, but haven't tried it. Then there would be the banana flavor. |
