Now sure if I need to do anything or not as far as protecting my daughter's interests.

She will get a check from social security monthly due his death. She was his only child.

Not sure if there were any policies for her in case of his death. I imagine after our divorce he change her as beneficiary but not sure. I do not communicate with his parents ( her grandparents- as they have not had contact with her in two years either prior to his death.)

I feel liek I should be doing something --not sure though. Any advice?

I suggest that you offer your condalences to his family. He is gone so there is no reason to not be magnanimous towards them. I think it is healthiest and so I hope you can let go of all negative feelings about him and his family. They are your daughter's family and someday she may want to get to know them. You certainly don't want your daughter to pick up on any negative feelings.

As far as legally, you are doing the right thing with the social security. If she is listed as a benificiary on any insurance policy then hopefully the insurance company will contact you. If they don't know where you are then the contact you initiate with his family will put you on the radar of any executor.
