I am 27 weeks pregnant with twins. The father left me when I was about 12 weeks along. He hasn't been involved with anything that is going on so far but claims he is going to be an active father once the babies are born. I moved back in with my parents when he ended it for lack of anywhere else to go. A few days later my mom was diagnosed with cancer. I quit my job a bit early to take care of her and my doctors don't want me working anyway. Less than two months after she was diagnosed she passed away.
I have a few months left of my pregnancy and I'm getting scared because I will be doing it alone. I have plenty of friends who say they will be there for me but it's not the same as having the father around. Besides, they have their own lives and families, I wouldn't want to impose on them. I'm going through some hard times and any advice would be appreciated.

Hi to everyone from Hobart, Australia!

I am a single mom (mum ) with two young children and have

written about my experiences through the first year of

separation - the initial transition period.

This is the most difficult time don't you think?
You are a role model for your children and therefore need to

remember to also look after your own wellbeing. It is all

about balance with life in general and with parenting in

particular. Studies show that it is not separation but ongoing

conflict between parents that hurts children.
What makes a person empowered? good self esteem, health and fitness, supportive friendships and relationships, empowering

'inner talk' - the thoughts you choose to listen to, and so

on... self empowerment is not just a mystery known only to a

chosen few.... you can choose to empower yourself at the very

important juncture in your life when you become a single mom.

Separation can be viewed as a golden opportunity for self-
renewal: getting back in touch with who you really are -the essence of you Love Claire Cavendishx
