We're in the midst of deciding how custody should be done, and where since he doesn't have a place, so the boy thinks hasn't seen him much. But, he really truly thinks his dad is his ex-father. He doesn't think he caused the breakup like most kids? Nothing I've said so far is changing his mind. I think he wants to believe he's not his father any more.

I was just wondering how old your child is? I am going through something similar to what you are. The only difference is my son thinks he is his dad's ex-son. My advise to you is let your child go through all the emotions naturally and don't force the issue. He/She is going to be upset about what is going on no matter who's happy who left or vice versa. Maybe you could pray with your child and ask for comfort in your heart and for God to take your pain away. (I'm sorry if you are not religious, it just helps my son and I to give it to God.)
