I"m a single mom of 2 kids... I have recently met this amazing guy and we are slowly starting to get to know one another... He is the brother in law to a good friend of mine and has no children of his own. We get along great and always have a great time together. He has told me that he has a hard time "keeping his hands off me" when we are together but...
He has been very hurt in 2 different long term relationships with single moms... In one he was even drafting papers to adopt her kids... He adores children but having them ripped from his life on 2 occassions has made him shy away from relationships with anyone who has kids... This guy is absolutely terrific and I think we can be really good together... I just don't know how to handle this situation... I don't introduce my kids the guys I'm dating for a long time due to the same reasons he's afraid of... Is there any hope of him coming around or should I just give up before I get hurt?

You must remember that there is "Always Hope" without hope many of us would be left with nothing. Unfortunately things are often much more complicated than we would like them to be. All I can say is take it slow and don't compare yourself with those other single moms. Nothing against single moms, of course. For one reason or another it just did not work out with them.

Just try to step back and enjoy your time with him and really get to know him. Good luck.

If he is really as teriffic as you say, he will understand that you are trying to protect your kids from introducing them to a man, only to have that man ripped from their lives, as their father may have been. If you think about it, you both want to do the same thing, (he: protect himself from falling in love with your kids) (you: protect the kids from falling in love with him). The children in this case are more important to protect, they are not as apt to understand adult issues when and IF you do break up. I whole heartedly agree with you, wait until you are serious about the guy, I did introduce my kids a little bit too early, broke up with the guy, and my kids were asking why he (and his son) dont visit them any more. I lied to them and said we all have been busy (they are small enough I can get away with this). In addition the guy used his son against me, saying how devestated he was going to be that I was taking his friends away from him. (the thing is, his son was very poorly behaved, and got away with EVERYTHING, my girls were harder to control, especially when they were all together, and now that he is gone, they are back to themselves). Next time, I will be dating someone a LONG time before they are all introduced.

All times are CT
